From 10:00 a.m. this Tuesday, August 25, until 10:00 a.m. this Wednesday, August 26, the coordinator of Izquierda Unida in Lanzarote, Sebastián Castilla, has been on hunger strike. With this protest, he showed his support for the cause defended by the Saharawi citizen Takbar Haddi, who is seeking justice for her son Haidala, who was murdered by Morocco. This action, in which different public officials, cultural figures, politicians and Saharawi activists have participated, consists of a chain hunger strike, the baton of which the participants pass every 24 hours, to continue "demanding justice" from the Moroccan government, explain from the formation.

"IU Lanzarote has not hesitated to join this initiative in the figure of its Coordinator, and tries to focus attention on the tremendous injustice experienced by Haddi, who has been ignored by the Spanish and Moroccan governments and who is still waiting for an answer about the murder of her son," the party stresses. Likewise, in its statement, IU Lanzarote "encourages all supporters and militants to join this cause, either through this chain, or by demanding justice for Haidala wherever it may be".

On May 15, Takbar Haddi began a hunger strike in front of the consulate of the Kingdom of Morocco in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, demanding justice for her murdered son. Mohamed Haidala "was brutally attacked by five Moroccan settlers in occupied Aaiún, without having received adequate medical assistance and having been the victim of police action that was at least negligent," they point out from IU.

"In IUC we have always defended the Saharawi cause and with these actions we demand that the government of Morocco proceed with the exhumation of the corpse to carry out an autopsy by expert and independent doctors, and that it return the body to the family to be buried later with dignity. Likewise, the government of Morocco must put in place the necessary mechanisms to determine those responsible for Haidala's death and condemn the events," they demand.
