Heart Lanzarote has presented this Tuesday its fifth edition, which will be held on October 16 and 17 in Playa Honda with a proposal that takes a step further in the evolution of the festival and bets on an even more immersive, participatory, and close experience.

The Playa Honda Urban Park, the chosen venue for the presentation, will precisely be one of the main protagonists of this edition, concentrating a good part of a program that will once again make the town beat with culture, creativity, and performing arts. On Saturday, the festival will also extend to Playa Honda Avenue.

Participating in the presentation were Isidro Pérez, mayor of San Bartolomé; Jesús Machín, Minister of Culture of the Cabildo de Lanzarote; José Juan Lorenzo, manager of Promotur Turismo de Islas Canarias; Mari Carmen Fernández, commercial director of the Centers of Art, Culture, and Tourism of Lanzarote; and Yvonne Thiery, director of Heart Lanzarote.

“Reaching the fifth edition makes us very excited, but above all, it confirms that Heart makes sense. We want people to come, enjoy, be moved, and have a good time, of course, but also to take something with them; that the festival sows consciousness,” assures Yvonne Thiery.

A festival to experience from within

The immersive and experiential character will take on special prominence this year, inviting the public not only to attend the shows but also to participate and be part of what happens in the different spaces.

This philosophy is particularly materialized in a collective art project that begins before the festival itself. Since the end of September, workshops have been held in educational centers and association headquarters, a creative process that will continue during October 16 and 17 with activities open to the public in the Urban Park. The result will be part of an open-air exhibition called “Hábitat, el hogar del arte colectivo” (Habitat, the home of collective art).

In addition, with the aim of achieving a more participatory and sensory experience, “Orkestrònia,” by Álex Rigol and Cía. La Cresta,” an interactive sound experimentation installation that promotes creativity and curiosity using objects, lands on the island for the first time.

A program that seeks to leave a mark

The fifth edition will bring together Canary Islands and national companies with a diverse program, designed to surprise, move, and involve the public. Beyond entertainment, the proposals selected by Heart Lanzarote share a vision that uses culture as a tool for awareness and transformation, addressing different realities and transmitting messages that invite reflection and seek to generate a positive impact on those who enjoy them.

Saturday morning will also bring the Heart atmosphere to the Avenida de Playa Honda, with workshops and participatory activities designed for family enjoyment. The pergolas will once again become exhibition spaces with a photographic exhibition that will showcase some of the moments from previous editions of the festival, reviving an initiative that has been part of Heart in other years.

As in previous editions, Pum Pum Heart will be one of the highlights; an initiative that involves schoolchildren, the elderly, and different community groups, and which this year expands the experience to the entire citizenry on Saturday.

Sustainability, inclusion, and participation

Heart Lanzarote maintains in its fifth edition the principles that have defined the project since its inception. Sustainability, inclusion, and citizen participation will once again be present transversally both in the programming and in the very conception of the festival.

The commitment to accessible culture will be translated, among other actions, into sign language interpretation of those shows that require it by Signalanz, while workshops and collective proposals will favor

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, pointed out that "Heart Lanzarote once again fills Playa Honda with culture and makes its streets and public spaces a meeting point for residents and visitors. For two days we will have a diverse, accessible program open to different audiences, with the opportunity to share and enjoy performing arts together." "That Heart incorporates shows with sign language interpretation and gestural and visual proposals that do not depend exclusively on spoken language is a demonstration of how we can continue to move towards more inclusive cultural programming," he assured.

The Minister of Culture of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Jesús Machín, highlighted that “Heart demonstrates that the performing arts have the capacity to occupy public space and generate new ways of approaching culture”. “That a festival reaches its fifth edition also speaks of continuity, of work, and of a cultural program that has managed to find its place in Lanzarote,” he added.

The managing director of Turismo de Islas Canarias, José Juan Lorenzo, emphasized how “Heart makes the community the protagonist of the festival, involving citizens in the decoration and organizing workshops for various groups, a participation that strengthens the link between tourism, culture, and Lanzarote society”. Likewise, Lorenzo highlighted that Heart expects to generate an economic impact of almost 800,000 euros, “which will benefit both job creation and local economic activity, which is one of the objectives of our event sponsorship strategy, in addition to creating a top-level activity agenda”. Since 2021, Turismo de Islas Canarias has allocated more than 38.8 million euros to 597 cultural events, which also had the participation of promoter companies of 219 million and public administrations of 22 million euros.

Organized by Arenao Producciones, the festival has the sponsorship of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Turismo de Islas Canarias, Turismo Lanzarote, ICDC, and the San Bartolomé City Council, in addition to the collaboration of the Art, Culture, and Tourism Centers of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Chacón, Relaxia, and Aguas de Guayadeque.
