The Government of the Canary Islands has once again left several promises in Lanzarote and has committed to resolving the instability of the slopes of the Arrecife Ring Road, as it passes through the Maneje neighborhood. However, the Island Council will have to continue negotiating to try to get the Executive to assume the rest of the complementary works that this road needs.
This Wednesday, a technical meeting was held to monitor the works between the Minister of Public Works of the Island Council, José Antonio Gutiérrez, the general director of Road Infrastructure of the Government of the Canary Islands, Juan Ventura Medina, and the mayor of Arrecife, Manuel Fajardo Feo.
The Island Council and the Arrecife City Council have demanded that the Canarian Executive conclude the works on the Ring Road "as planned" in the project, but they have also demanded in a "forceful" manner that a solution be given to the safety of the slopes in Maneje.
Councilor José Antonio Gutiérrez explained to La Voz that both institutions of Lanzarote wanted to give "importance" to the execution of a retaining wall in Maneje to provide "security to the neighborhood and the road."
"The rest of the complementary works are also important, but we give priority to this, because it is non-negotiable. These works have to be done yes or yes, because even if it is a problem that has arisen, a solution must be given," Gutiérrez pointed out. In this sense, he announced that Juan Ventura has already committed to guaranteeing "the safety of this area."
The rest of the works will continue to be "negotiated"
Regarding the rest of the complementary works of the Ring Road, that is, the entrance from Tahíche to Arrecife and a third lane for the connection of this road with the LZ-2, it will continue to be "discussed later" and "negotiated" to try to get the Canarian Executive to assume it or "pre-finance" them from some institution in Lanzarote.
"We will continue negotiating because we have to do it, especially the entrance to Arrecife coming from Tahíche," the councilor indicated. This last project consists of converting the two existing lanes into four.
