The Government authorizes the signing of the agreement for the Tourism Sustainability Plan of Lanzarote, endowed with 4.9 million

The regional Executive will contribute 1,650,000 euros, the same amount as the Secretary of State for Tourism and the Island Council

The Governing Council authorized this Thursday the signing of the collaboration agreement between the Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce, the Secretary of State for Tourism and the Island Council of Lanzarote to execute the Tourism Sustainability Plan Lanzarote, the energy of the land, with a joint allocation of 4,950,000 euros, financed by the three institutions in equal parts.

This project is part of the ordinary call of the Program of Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destinations promoted by the Secretary of State for Tourism, in collaboration with the autonomous communities and local entities, with the aim of advancing in the transformation of tourist destinations towards a model based on environmental, socioeconomic and territorial sustainability.

"In particular", according to the Canarian Government, "this plan aims to address a gradual repositioning of sun and beach tourist destinations towards more competitive and sustainable models, without exceeding the limits of their environmental carrying capacity, as well as consolidating sustainable tourism models in urban destinations and promoting those located in rural areas and/or protected natural spaces."

The agreement, by which the Secretary of State for Tourism, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Cabildo of Lanzarote contribute, respectively, 1,650,000 euros, will last for four years, extendable, and is part of the Program of Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destinations, approved at the Sectoral Conference on Tourism.
