"Thank God, we are going to have our carnivals in Playa Blanca." This was stated by the Councilor for Festivities of Yaiza, Francisco Ramón, a few hours after it was made public that the government group had decided to suspend the parade in the tourist town. It was the [mayor of the municipality, Gladys Acuña, who confirmed this news->24975] on Monday morning on Radio Lanzarote.

However, a few hours later, Francisco Ramón provided new information. "On Friday we had decided, on the part of the City Council, that we could not do the parade due to economic problems," he explains, adding that "on Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday I dedicated myself fully to solving this problem", securing private support to finance the float parade.

"Speaking with the merchants and hotels, we have been able to gather the money and as of today we already have the organized parade," he says, thanking the support of the businessmen. "They have gotten us out of a bind and that is appreciated."

Among other things, the councilor explains that they were worried because many hotels had asked them for the dates of the Carnival to pass them on to their clients, who were interested in this celebration. "Playa Blanca is going to have carnivals, which is really what the residents wanted," he adds.

False alarm

Early this Monday morning, the mayor of Yaiza, [Gladys Acuña, pointed out on the Buenos Días Lanzarote program that Playa Blanca would not be able to enjoy the parade this year->24975], since organizing it involved an investment of about 30,000 euros that the City Council could not afford, given its delicate economic situation.

Shortly after, the president of the Canarian Coalition in Lanzarote, Jesús Machín, assured that he had addressed his councilors in the Yaiza government group (formed by the PIL-CC pact), to reverse this decision and maintain the parade.

A few hours later, the Councilor for Festivities of the municipality and member of the Canarian Coalition, Francisco Ramón, publicly assured that the issue had been resolved and that, finally, Playa Blanca will have its Carnival parade.
