The Monitoring and Control Commission between the Island Water Consortium and Canal Gestión Lanzarote did not meet to analyze the finding of "fecal contamination" in the water of Nazaret and Las Cabreras. This body performs the functions of "supervision and inspection of the management of the concessionaire" of the water supply service; and is, in addition, who "understands how many problems may arise in the service."
This is established in the technical specifications of the Consortium regarding the water concession contract on the island. However, the Cabildo has confirmed that "no meeting has been held regarding Las Cabreras." In fact, this body has not met since last April, despite the fact that, according to that same specification, it must hold an ordinary session every two months.
It did not meet at the time, nor afterwards to analyze what happened
Even in the event that it was not appropriate to hold an ordinary meeting when e-coli bacteria was found in the Canal Gestión network in Nazaret, on September 28, the Commission may meet "extraordinarily whenever it is considered convenient at the proposal of its president".
However, no meeting of the Commission was called, neither ordinary nor extraordinary, at the time when Public Health found "more than 200 colonies of e-coli bacteria" in a routine water sampling in Nazaret. Two days later the restriction was lifted, after subsequent analyzes by Canal Gestión and Public Health tested negative and, to this day, the reason why that bacteria appeared in the water is unknown. Despite this, and after two weeks, the Monitoring Commission has not convened a meeting to discuss what happened or why.
