The Official College of Architects of Lanzarote has registered this Thursday a writing in the City Council of Arrecife to claim “urgently” two urban files, since it considers that it could have incurred in “an attack against the Historical Heritage” with protected buildings of León y Castillo street. In addition, it anticipates that it wants to study those documents to be able to undertake legal actions if necessary.
In its writing, the College of Architects explains that it has had knowledge of the “demolition of buildings of patrimonial interest” in the numbers 52 and 54 of that street. And to this, it adds that “it has knowledge that this Thursday it is intended to take to the Governing Board authorization of a building license for 'restructuring' of another building of great patrimonial values, such as the Hotel Oriental, located in León y Castillo street 37”.
In the case of this last property, the project has unfavorable reports, as the group Lanzarote en Pie-Sí Podemos in the City Council has warned, which has also threatened to go to the Courts if the government group goes ahead and grants the permit.

For its part, the College of Architects, through its dean, has addressed directly to the mayoress, claiming the files of both interventions. “This College, as defenders of the Historical Heritage of the island, requests that you send urgently a copy of the files, so that this institution can assess and study the project and the technical and legal reports, in case they have incurred in an attack against the historical heritage and with it be able to initiate the pertinent judicial procedures”, it points out in the writing that it has presented in the Consistory.
