The Arrecife City Council agreed on Wednesday morning to the "temporary suspension of activities provided in the municipal swimming pool and the Argana Alta sports hall." This was announced by the Council in a statement, in which it explains that "the facilities must remain closed in the coming days and while the adaptation works to current regulations last."

Although they have been operating for years, neither the swimming pool nor the sports hall has an opening license. Until now, the government group had assured that the permits were being processed, although to obtain them, works had to be carried out on the facilities.

Last week, the Councilor for Sports, Francisca Toledo, announced on Radio Lanzarote that in the case of the Argana pavilion, it would be necessary to close it "for a couple of months", although she assured that they would wait for the summer months, when the sports season ended. However, the mayor has now signed a closure decree, and not only for the pavilion but also for the municipal swimming pool.

According to the City Council in its statement, this decision "responds to a report from the Classified Activities department, which advises the paralysis of the service." Now, they maintain that the awarding company must execute the "pertinent works" and, for this, the Governing Board has granted this Wednesday the license "of minor work".

The Arrecife City Council has "apologized" to the users of both facilities and has expressed its confidence that they will "be operational again as soon as possible." However, so far it has not given an estimated deadline.
