The facilities of the Mirador de Haría reopened their doors on Tuesday afternoon. Thus, after several years of works and rehabilitation, this space is once again available for the enjoyment of the population and visitors to the island.
The new facilities were inaugurated in an act that took place at 7:00 p.m. and was attended by the mayoress of Haría, Chaxiraxi Niz, who was accompanied by the entire Corporation, the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, and other political representatives of the island. The architect and person in charge of the project, Miguel Ángel Fontes Figuera, also attended the inauguration.
The northern mayoress celebrated this inauguration as "a new beginning for a space of great relevance for Haría and for Lanzarote", cataloged by her as "a perfect example of the coexistence between tourist development and the own culture that one of the symbols of the Island defended so much, such as César Manrique."
"In recent decades, the Mirador has suffered wear and tear and abandonment and, thanks to the commendable work of the councilor responsible for the Technical Office, Víctor Robayna, and the rest of the staff of this department, and the work of the architect Miguel Ángel Fontes, today Haría once again has one of its most emblematic attractions," he said
Likewise, according to Niz, "the collaboration between Public Administrations has been fundamental to complete this project", since it was awarded for an amount of 244,962.10 euros, from the Municipal Cooperation Plan of the Cabildo de Lanzarote.
"I want to congratulate the residents of Haría for recovering these facilities, which were absolutely abandoned, and which will allow our visitors to enjoy the enormous landscape value that the town of Haría treasures," stressed the president of the Cabildo.
"Haría brings an extraordinary value to the experience enjoyed by those who visit us and contributes to drawing the image of a sustainable island capable of offering a global experience, which goes far beyond the sun and the beach that other destinations can offer," added María Dolores Corujo.
A building that merges landscape with architecture
This was the second time that the City Council had put this project out to tender, since the previous contract ended with the abandonment of the work by the contractor.
The person in charge of the restoration project, Miguel Ángel Fontes, explained "it is a cutting-edge intervention where a constant dialogue is established between contemporary architecture and the elements of traditional architecture and the landscape." "The building is conceived as a sum of works of art where the landscape merges with the architecture, where art and architecture merge," the architect concluded.
In 1966, the Lanzarote artist César Manrique designed these facilities, highlighting the natural environment in which they are located and the unique characteristics it offers in geological and landscape terms. Now, with the execution of these works, the Cabildo and the Haría City Council intend to consolidate an ecological tourism alternative, which contributes to promoting the natural and environmental values of the northern municipality, through the knowledge and dissemination of protected spaces, endemic flora and fauna, traditional architecture, trails, popular culture and crafts.
