The Canary Islands Government affirms that the forensic assistant will be permanently in Lanzarote "in a few days"

The Minister of Public Administrations, Justice and Security of the Canary Islands Government, Julio Pérez, assured during his official visit to Lanzarote that there is already a forensic assistant hired for the island, who "in a few days" will be permanently there.

As Pérez explained, the technical assistant has been hired since February 9 for his permanent presence on the island, after following the appropriate selection procedures. However, he specified that the person occupying this position of forensic technical assistant moves to Gran Canaria "when there are no autopsies to be performed in Lanzarote" to complete his training, in terms of operation and protocols, at the Institute of Legal Medicine of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

However, the Minister stated that "in a few days he will be permanently on the island to carry out his work." "The technical team is now complete and there will be no delays as a result of lack of personnel," the Ministry of Justice assures.

Pérez clarified, however, that "the autopsy is not an instantaneous act since, when a death needs to be clarified, it is part of a judicial procedure and its execution takes time, to be done with all the guarantees so that when the procedure culminates it cannot be questioned."

Visit to the Courts of Arrecife

After a meeting in the Cabildo, where they discussed the purpose of launching the Family Meeting Point, the Minister of Public Administrations, Justice and Security of the Canary Islands Government held a meeting with the presiding magistrate of the Judicial District of Arrecife, Adalberto de la Cuz, and visited the facilities of the judicial headquarters of the capital of Lanzarote. Julio Pérez was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of Justice, Carla Vallejo, and the General Director of Relations with the Administration of Justice, Marta Bonnet.

The Minister described the judicial building as "modern and well-equipped" and the staff as "stimulating", although he considered that it is necessary to improve the equipment. During the visit, Pérez learned about the situation of each of the judicial units and stated that the decision on the redistribution of spaces will be addressed.
