The Government of the Canary Islands has signed this Friday the VI Addendum to the agreement that regulates inter-institutional collaboration in matters of Dependency for a total amount of 18,589,292.72 euros. The signing took place in the Cabildo of Lanzarote with the intervention of the Minister of Social Welfare, Candelaria Delgado, and the president of the island corporation, Oswaldo Betancort.

At the same time, both institutions have formalized the document for the transfer that will allow the Cabildo of Lanzarote to launch one hundred new places for dependency. The amount to be transferred by the Government of the Canary Islands is 9,223,818.87 euros financed through the European funds of the Mechanism for Recovery and Resilience. The contribution of the Cabildo to this Agreement will be 645,667.32 euros, with which the total financing for the launch of the one hundred new places, both residential and daytime, amounts to almost ten million euros.

For the Minister of Social Welfare, this signature means "to continue advancing in the commitments that the Government of the Canary Islands acquired with the citizens when improving the care for the people who need it most, especially those dependent. The agreements with the councils allow for a management close to the territory, more effective and focused on the real needs of the island."

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted the collaboration between both administrations, "which will allow us to have new places for dependency and better infrastructures suitable to guarantee the well-being and comfort of the users, and generating new employment opportunities on our island.

Betancort reaffirmed his commitment and that of his government team "to take care of our community and meet the real needs of our elders and people with dependency. We are not only expanding places, but we are building a care system that will last over time, aligned with the vision of a more humane and accessible Lanzarote."

The financing agreement of the VI Addendum of the Collaboration Agreements of Dependency adds six new places for residential care and eight daytime. This document includes the contribution of 14,149,966.81 euros from the Government of the Canary Islands and almost 4.5 million euros from the Cabildo, which will be allocated to the Disability Care Services, the maintenance of the places for the elderly of the Dependency System, the Social and Health Care Services for Dependent People, the Promotion of Personal Autonomy, the Infrastructure Plan, the concert with closed institutions and territorial entities and the contribution to the Dependency Benefit System.

The one hundred places financed by the MRR funds have been selected at the proposal of the Island Council and are distributed in the acquisition of a property to locate thirty-five residential places and twenty day stay places in the multipurpose disability center in Tías; the acquisition of a property to have twenty day stay places in the center for the elderly and physical disability in a situation of dependency in Tinajo; and the acquisition of another property to have fifteen residential places and ten day stay places in the multipurpose disability center in Arrecife.

The actions will be developed until the end of 2026 and the financing will be paid to the Island Council of Lanzarote once the realization of the activity and its real cost is accredited, although the forecast is that 50% will be entered in this 2024, 35% in 2025 and the remaining 15% in 2026. With these one hundred places of different types, the Government of the Canary Islands continues in the process of financing the Cabildos to launch the 683 places planned for all the Canary Islands charged to the European Next Generation funds of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.
