The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Transport area directed by Nerea Santana, has just put out for public tender the execution of the project "Phase II: Canopies of Unique Image of Regular Interurban Transport in the municipalities of Yaiza and Tías", with a budget amounting to 98,074.67 euros, including taxes.

"The objective of these works is to continue with the Improvement Plan for the Infrastructures of regular public land transport of passengers on our island", emphasizes Santana, who explains that "three new bus canopies will be built, 100% sustainable, two of them in the municipality of Yaiza and one in Puerto del Carmen, in the municipality of Tías".

Specifically, the works, whose execution period will be two months, will allow the installation of new canopies on the LZ-2 Arrecife-Yaiza road, in the vicinity of the IES of Yaiza and on Las Salinas street s/n in La Hoya, also in the municipality of Yaiza. In addition, another canopy will be built on the Rambla Islas Canarias s/n in Puerto del Carmen, which currently only has a vertical bus stop sign and parking area.

A design integrated into the landscape

The result of the design of these new canopies is the result of the consensus reached between the Cabildo and the town councils of the island. Thus, it is pointed out that the construction adapts, formally and functionally, to the climate of our island, protecting travelers from the wind, the sun or the rain, allowing, at the same time, the visual control of the road.

The concept of the same reinterprets the classic pergola of the traditional architecture of Lanzarote, using for this purpose "more durable and resistant" materials. With regard to lighting, it will be with clean energy, through the installation of photovoltaic panels.

The contract for these works will be awarded by Simplified Open Procedure and interested companies have until September 3 to submit their bids on the bidding portal of the Island Council.

New seats and benches for the Arrecife Bus Station

On the other hand, the Minister of Transport, Nerea Santana, has also announced the tender for the installation of new benches and seats at the Arrecife Bus Station, a key point of the public transport infrastructure that concentrates a large number of users.

"In total, six new benches and three ischial seats will be installed, that is, those that incorporate a support of the lumbar area for rest, to improve and condition the waiting areas of the station, both inside and in the platform area, achieving a more renovated image of these facilities", details Santana.

The base budget for the tender for the supply and installation of these benches is 18,393.30 euros and the deadline for submitting bids by interested companies concludes on September 1.
