The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Department of Waste and Ecovidrio, a non-profit organization in charge of managing the recycling of glass packaging waste in Spain, has launched for the fifth consecutive year the campaign "Recycle Glass for Them" on the occasion of World Breast Cancer Day.
As a sign of support for all those fighting women and research to individualize treatment and make it more effective, the president of the Cabildo, María Dolores Corujo, and the councilor Hugo Delgado, approached this Monday the containers installed in the vicinity of the first island corporation.
During the visit, María Dolores Corujo, applauded this awareness campaign and sent all women a message of strength and courage in the face of a hard fight. "We feel closer to you than ever and I encourage citizens to join this initiative that aims to recycle glass containers to take care of the environment and thus contribute to a solidarity cause such as breast cancer prevention, a disease that in Spain will affect one in eight women at some point in their lives," she said.
For his part, the Minister of Waste, Hugo Delgado explained that "these pink containers will remain until October 28 in the bus station next to the Cabildo and, subsequently, Ecovidrio will transform the containers deposited inside into a donation to the Sandra Ibarra Foundation for Solidarity Against Cancer".
Glass recycling data in Lanzarote
The Cabildo points out that, according to the latest data for 2019, the inhabitants of Lanzarote recycled a total of 557 tons of glass containers, which means that each inhabitant recycled an average of 8.8 kilograms.
Regarding the containerization rate, Lanzarote is located with an average of 289 inhabitants per container, with a total of 218 igloos for glass packaging waste installed.
Miniglú
As a symbol of awareness and solidarity with breast cancer, Agatha Ruiz de la Prada has designed a special miniglú for the occasion, which highlights the motto of the Sandra Ibarra Foundation: "Full of life".
The miniglú can be purchased through the Miniglú.es website, and the benefits will be donated to the Sandra Ibarra Foundation to contribute to cancer prevention and research.
Santa Ibarra Foundation and Ecovidrio
According to the Cabildo, the Sandra Ibarra Foundation is a non-profit organization with a twelve-year history of joining efforts against cancer. During these years, the foundation has invested its time in promoting campaigns and financing research, awareness and prevention projects against cancer, as well as the development of the humanization of health.
Regarding the work of Ecovidrio, it is noted that it stands out for guaranteeing high quality recycling through the container, promoting containerization and collection infrastructures, investing in plans and resources aimed at increasing the recycling of glass containers in the hotel industry, mobilizing citizens through awareness campaigns and promoting prevention and eco-design of packaging.
