The Cabildo of Lanzarote has decided to "appeal against the authorization of the Vista Mar Wind Farm", a 6 megawatt (MW) project promoted by the company Renovertis, SL, in the municipality of Teguise, according to the island's government.

"The appeal will be presented in the coming days through administrative channels, and subsequently through judicial channels if the appeal is not successful through administrative channels," they anticipate.

Therefore, the Cabildo has in its hands two ways that "remain open to achieve the suspension or revocation of the authorization for the implementation of the Vista Mar Wind Farm project", both against the declaration of general interest of art. 6 bis and against the administrative authorization that integrates the aforementioned declaration, one administrative and the other judicial, they add.

“The Island Government is strongly opposed to the use of the exceptional route of the declaration of general interest by the General Directorate of Energy to authorize private installations of this type on the island, unless they are for self-consumption and are integrated into the criteria approved by the Island Government Council”, assures the Minister of Energy, Ariagona González.

In the same sense, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, has reiterated: “We share with the Government of the Canary Islands the need to promote renewable energies, but we repeat, once again, that its deployment must be ordered to minimize visual impacts and environmental effects and guarantee the conservation of our most valuable asset, which is our landscape.”

Likewise, the Cabildo of Lanzarote reaffirms the position it has been defending in recent years: "The projects for the installation of private wind farms should not be declared of general interest, unless they are for self-consumption and in accordance with the criteria approved by the Island Government Council and, on the other hand, that this exceptional mechanism is not used to authorize unlimited renewable projects on the island. “We will not take a single step back and we will use all means at our disposal to prevent this project,” concludes Ariagona González.
