The Cabildo of Lanzarote continues celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Biosphere Reserve

In May, there will be a family economics workshop and a Biodanza workshop, as well as a marathon to search for invasive exotic species.

The Lanzarote Council continues its program of activities to mark the island's 30th anniversary as a Biosphere Reserve. During this month of May, a family economics workshop will be held, as well as a marathon to search for invasive exotic species. In addition, a Biodanza workshop will be given to Mararía users, and they will celebrate Canary Islands Day with the unitary schools participating in the Biosphere Schools project, according to the Councilor of the Biosphere Reserve, Nicolás Saavedra.

A program "alive and open to all those people and associations that want to make proposals", the Cabildo of Lanzarote reported in a statement, which began last April and will extend throughout the year.

As for the Family Economics and Conscious Consumption workshop, it will take place next Wednesday, May 17, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., in the Municipal Archive of Arrecife, and will be taught by Belén Gallego, specialized in the design and implementation of business models and viability plans, as well as being a consultant and trainer in institutions such as the School of Industrial Organization, the Incydes Foundation of the Chambers of Commerce, Intech Tenerife and the General Foundation of the University of La Laguna.

During this workshop, organized in collaboration with Cruz Roja and the associations Mararía, La Vida es Zuaina and Manos que no dais qué esperáis, extensive information will be offered on how to learn to make good personal and family financial planning.

Also, on May 15, in the town of Playa Honda, a new Biodanza Workshop will be given, although in this case it will be aimed exclusively at the users of the Mararía Association.

Marathon to search for invasive exotic species

For the 21st, together with IPNA-CSIC and RedEXOS, the Lanzarote Biosphere Reserve Office has scheduled the third marathon to search for invasive exotic species "Alien BioBlitz", which will be taught by field technicians from RedEXOS and WWF.

The activity, open to the public, will consist of a prior and brief training workshop and subsequent field trip through specific areas of the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, in which participants will report through the RedEXOS app locations and photos of invasive species. The event, which is part of a European initiative, is focused on finding and identifying invasive species in a specific area and promoting greater citizen awareness about the danger of exotic species to native biodiversity.

In the case of Lanzarote, the activity will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., with prior registration required via email [email protected] (indicate name, surname, ID, date of birth and telephone number).

As for the people who want to participate in the activity that will be carried out in La Graciosa, they must also register in advance, although in this case sending an email to [email protected], in which they must also add their name and surname, ID, date of birth and telephone number.

Canary Islands Day with the Biosphere Schools

Finally, the Collective of Rural Schools of the island of Lanzarote (CER), dependent on the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, has organized a meeting next Friday, May 26, in Montaña Blanca, to celebrate Canary Islands Day together with family members, neighbors, teachers and students of these schools.

All the unit schools, which are part of the 'Biosphere Schools' project, will be present, as will the Reserve Office, which leads this initiative and will participate with an information stand that will show all its action plans in schools, as well as carry out a sample of ecological agricultural products from the island, with a tasting of natural fruit juices for students. There will also be an activity aimed at the little ones consisting of storytelling narrated by Cristina Temprano.

The Collective of Rural Schools of Lanzarote (CER) has also organized for that day a pilgrimage, workshops and tasting of Canarian food made by parents. In addition, each school will have a stand to show the work done for Canary Islands Day. All activities will take place during school hours.
