The president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, on her behalf and on behalf of the entire Corporation, wanted to convey her most sincere congratulations to the murga Las Revotosas and the Parranda Marinera Los Buches for obtaining the Gold Medal of the Canary Islands 2023 awarded by the regional government.
“They are two leading groups of our Carnival, which are part of our history, our traditions and our heritage, and which richly deserve this award, so I feel enormously proud,” said Corujo.
Regarding Las Revoltosas, the president of the Cabildo recalls that “they were the first female murga in the Canary Islands, marking a before and after in the 80s and in a festival that until then was very masculine.” “They paved the way towards equality and proved to be an example of female empowerment,” adds Corujo.
For its part, the president of the Cabildo highlights that the Parranda Marinera Los Buches, which has celebrated its 60th anniversary, “is a very important piece of our tradition and culture, of the maximum expression of popular carnival and a culture linked to the sea.”
