In Lanzarote, care and respect for our elders is an indisputable priority, and this initiative consolidates our vision of a fairer and more inclusive society, where the role of family caregivers is recognized and supported."

For his part, the president of SOCANGER, Javier Alonso Ramírez, highlighted the relevance of the project: "The Canary Society of Geriatrics and Gerontology has been promoting scientific advances related to aging for more than 35 years. With the Geriatrics Month by Month program, we bring to Lanzarote a pioneering training, scientifically endorsed, that will provide caregivers with tools to improve their day-to-day, alleviate their burden and provide them with support to face the challenges of caring for dependent people."

Although on this occasion, the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort García, sent a welcome message in which he expressed his pride in the launch of this initiative: "This project underscores our commitment to excellence in care and improving the quality of life of our elders and dependents. We are investing in a fairer and more supportive future, where dignity and respect for our elders occupy a central place."

The program will address the most prevalent geriatric syndromes from a comprehensive and practical perspective, allowing caregivers to reduce the uncertainty that accompanies their work. "It is essential that we continue to train the professionals and family members who care for our elders, and this program offers the opportunity to do so in a continuous and specialized manner," added Betancort.

Geriatrics Month by Month Program

The Geriatrics Month by Month Program consists of 12 monthly sessions that will take place on the last Friday of each month in the Assembly Hall of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, with a duration of between 90 and 120 minutes. The program offers both a morning shift (12:00 – 13:30) and an afternoon shift (17:00 – 18:30), which allows for greater flexibility for attendees. Each session will be taught by specialists in geriatrics and elderly care, and will cover a wide range of essential topics for the well-being of the elderly and their caregivers.

This pioneering program not only seeks to improve the well-being of the elderly, but also to provide valuable support to caregivers, both professionals and family members, by offering them continuous training and resources for the effective management of situations arising from the care of dependent people.
