The Cabildo of Lanzarote illuminated its main facade and the Farmer's Monument in violet last night to celebrate International Women's Day.

This symbolic gesture joins various projects in which the Cabildo is working in support of gender equality. On the one hand, it has joined the Canary Islands Institute of Equality's '+Together like never before' campaign, which especially supports women in vulnerable situations; and on the other, it has launched the creation of a Violet Section in the Island Library.

“From the institutions, we want to bring feminism and the fight for equality closer through authors who have marked history and fought firmly for their rights. In addition, the library will have a children's section with the aim of training children in equality,” says the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo.

For her part, the Minister of Social Welfare, Isabel Martín, wanted to highlight the extraordinary nature of the celebration of this year's events marked by the pandemic. “Despite the difficult health and social situation, we join all the women who work for our rights. On a day like this, we respect, accompany and admire every form of struggle of women in their day to day,” concludes the counselor.
