The efforts made by the Cabildo of Lanzarote have facilitated access to the Canary Insertion Benefit (PCI) for 50 homeless people who are staying in the shelter installed by the Corporation in the Sports City due to the Covid-19 crisis. "They are in a situation of poverty, marginalization and social exclusion," they point out from the Cabildo.
“It is a great personal satisfaction, even more than a political one, to be able to contribute to offering a new opportunity to people whom life has placed in a situation of special vulnerability. It is very gratifying to know that they are in a position to start rebuilding their lives,” says the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo.
The Canary Insertion Benefit is an aid granted by the Autonomous Executive to people and families who do not have the means or income to cover their basic needs and who meet the established requirements. The minimum amount is approximately 486 euros, in the case of a person who lives alone and has no income. The amount increases depending on the number of members that make up the cohabitation unit. The PCI is granted for one year, and may be renewed for periods of 6 months up to a maximum of two years.
“Citizens must be absolutely clear that we are not going to leave anyone behind, even less so in these moments of maximum difficulty. We will continue working to achieve the social, economic and labor integration of people, especially the elderly, families without resources and people with disabilities, who are the groups that are paying the highest price for this crisis,” explains the president.
