The Cabildo has signed the declaration of emergency for the "imminent execution" of the repair works on the road LZ-703 that connects Las Breñas with El Golfo, specifically in the area known as Los Hervideros road.
After the landslides that took place on February 15, which caused a huge sinkhole on the left side of the road, the Cabildo decided to close the road to traffic to avoid possible accidents. "It should be noted that this section of road, which runs through the Los Volcanes Natural Park, borders the sea and is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Lanzarote," they recall from the Corporation.

The president, María Dolores Corujo, accompanied by the Minister of Public Works, Jacobo Medina, and several technicians from the Corporation, visited the area this Friday, where "various studies are already being carried out with specialized companies to adequately analyze the damage" on this road. "A geotechnical study is being carried out that includes surveys, as well as a maritime study to analyze possible solutions and another to stabilize the slopes affected by the action of the sea,” the minister explained.
For her part, the president stressed that the declaration of emergency of this work "has allowed the execution of the repair work to be authorized, the total cost of which amounts to approximately one million euros.”

In addition, she stressed that “this road sits on a very erodible volcanic flow, so the northwest storms cause the coastline to recede, so that on some occasions, the Cabildo has had to move the road inland.” The intervention will be carried out on the road itself, by the company Hormigones Insulares S.L, with the implementation of wave defense and slope stabilization elements.
