The Cabildo of Lanzarote has announced this Monday morning that in the next regulatory bases for subsidies aimed at the organization of events and popular festivals, it will require new requirements related to citizen security and compliance with regulations on noise pollution. This decision is made after representatives of the Platform against Noise have held the island institution responsible for subsidizing events that affect residents.

This was announced by the president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, following the commitment made during the corporation's plenary session with representatives of the Platform against Noise of Arrecife. These spokespersons conveyed to the institution the concern of numerous residents about the disturbances caused by large-scale events held on the island.

As reported by the island institution, the future calls for aid will establish as a requirement that the organizing entities prove, on the one hand, the existence of the corresponding security and self-protection plans when they are required and, on the other hand, compliance with current regulations regarding acoustic emissions and noise limits.

The president of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, explained that "the Cabildo will continue to support festivals, culture, sports, and the revitalization of our municipalities, but that support must be accompanied by compliance with basic conditions that guarantee people's safety and respect for residents' rest."

Betancort added that "it is not about stopping events. It is about doing them well, balancing leisure with the quality of life of those who live near the spaces where they are held."

"The Cabildo will not withdraw resources for festivals; on the contrary, it will continue to collaborate with the municipalities. What we will demand is that those who receive public funding justify that they comply with safety measures and noise regulations. It is a way of responding to both the town councils and the citizens," he pointed out.

For her part, the vice-president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, María Jesús Tovar, also extended a hand to the platform that attended the plenary session "to work jointly and coordinated so that festive and cultural events can be held with parameters that allow residents to rest". "Our job is clear: to listen and address the problems of the residents and seek beneficial solutions for everyone".

During the Plenary session held this week, the spokesperson for the Platform against Noise of Arrecife presented the discontent of numerous residents due to the impact generated by some large-format shows, demanding better planning and respect for rest hours and the acoustic limits established by legislation.
