Félix Mendikote, the president of the Platform against Noise in Arrecife, intervened this Thursday in the plenary session of the Cabildo of Lanzarote to explain the situation that the neighbors are going through in the capital due to the disturbances caused by different events and to ask for solutions. In addition, Mendikote also spoke minutes before on the program Buenos días, Lanzarote on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.
During his intervention in the plenary session of the Cabildo of Lanzarote this Thursday, Mendikote accused the island council of "generating, with its economic and political support, an impact on the health, rest, and quality of life of the neighbors, and we cannot continue to look the other way."
"Perhaps they thought it was only a matter for the Arrecife City Council, but the financing they are seeing is largely from them, so the responsibility is also theirs," he continued.
In this regard, Mendikote specified that "we are not against culture, business, or economic revitalization; what we denounce is the absolute imbalance between the right to enjoyment of a few and the right to rest of a majority."
The platform has highlighted that "while public resources are allocated to macro-events, festivals, and constant celebrations, residents endure noise levels incompatible with health, street closures, and the collapse of entire neighborhoods, making it impossible to rest, work, or simply live normally."
"A very clear message is being sent to the citizens that the rest, health, and daily lives of the neighbors are worth less than the noise and profitability of the different events," he pointed out.
Therefore, they have demanded solutions from the Cabildo of Lanzarote regarding what they consider to be noise pollution affecting the residents of the center of Arrecife.
In his radio appearance on Buenos días, Lanzarote, he wanted to make it clear that the Cabildo "must know that the citizens are involved, that they also consider them responsible, and that, as far as possible, they take the measures they have to take."
Likewise, he recalled that "the city needs a fairground or a convention center, a series of locations where these events can be held and not be haphazard."
