The Plenary of the Cabildo of Lanzarote has approved this Friday an Institutional Declaration in order to prevent the proliferation of marine cages off the coasts of Arrecife, San Bartolomé and Tías, specifically in the Aquaculture Interest Zone ZIA LZ-2, as stated in the Regional Plan for the Management of Aquaculture in the Canary Islands (PROAC) approved in 2018 during the presidency of the nationalist Fernando Clavijo.

Specifically, the Cabildo has requested the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries of the Government of the Canary Islands "to initiate the procedure to review the detailed planning of that area and the opening of a dialogue process, which will include the fishermen's associations, aimed at reviewing downwards the guidelines established by the PROAC for Lanzarote and adjusting them to the sustainable development model pursued by the island".

María Dolores Corujo has celebrated that Coalición Canaria "has rectified its position two years after submitting favorable technical reports and no allegations to a text that is an atrocity for the island due to its high environmental impact and the threat it poses to the lives of our men and women of the sea and to the leisure activity linked to the sea of the tourist offer with which we want to be a quality destination".

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, María Dolores Corujo, announced that she has the "commitment of the president of the Government of the Canary Islands and the regional minister to prevent the nonsense we inherited from an era in which there was a single plan that mattered from being consummated".
