Arrecife Plenary rejects PP's request to investigate the Coso accident

The proposal of the Popular Party in the Arrecife City Council for a commission to be opened to investigate what happened in relation to the security and the accident that occurred during the Arrecife Coso has counted in the plenary session this Monday with the votes against the government group, formed by PSOE, CC and PIL, and the abstention of Somos Lanzarote and Ganemos Lanzarote.

The PP have stated in a statement that these groups "do not want an investigation to know the exact facts surrounding the accident and the doubts that exist regarding the Security Plan." The Popular Group has regretted that the municipal government has rejected its proposal and has recalled that the accident resulted in two women injured, one of them seriously.

The populars have defended the constitution of the commission considering that "regardless of the judicial route that the case takes, very serious errors have occurred that could lead to the pertinent political responsibilities." In this sense, they have pointed out that "it is key that the Consistory itself analyzes this matter clearly and transparently and that it is clarified."

Security plans

The populars denounced last week that the Security Plan did not include either the booth of the advanced command post of the roundabout or the electric cable that is ultimately the cause of the serious accident and with which the float collided. Two elements on which the City Council avoided pronouncing when responding to the Popular Party, as stated in the statement sent. The PP also highlighted the irregular situation that occurred in the document by listing as responsible for Civil Protection the person who had submitted their resignation since July of last year.

The Popular Group has shown during the plenary session the security plans of 2015 and 2016 in which the booth and the electric cable were contemplated. In addition, they have insisted again that the Law of Classified Activities and Public Spectacles, which came into force at the end of 2013, establishes that the cable and the booth, as non-permanent demountable structures, must be contained in the security plans.
