The 1st Agrotechnological and Livestock Fair of Teguise kicks off

“Lanzarote must unite to protect a local product of very high quality,” says the mayor, Oswaldo Betancort

The first edition of the Agrotechnological and Livestock Fair of Teguise opened its doors this Thursday with a wide representation of the primary sector, which will show until Sunday, May 8, the products that are made on the island of Lanzarote.

From the City Council they point out that there are a total of 50 stands in which agricultural machinery, livestock, cheese factories, organic product farms, artisan chocolate shops, the Lanzarote Designation of Origin Regulatory Council, salt flats, hardware stores, fodder companies and a long etcetera that will become "an authentic claim for the public."

At the opening ceremony of the fair - inaugurated by the mayor of Teguise, Oswaldo Betancort and the Councilor for Agriculture, Gerardo Rodríguez. In addition, the president of FASAT (Federation of Agricultural and Fisheries Associations Castillo de Teguise) Omar Viñas, and the director of Caja Siete, José Manuel Garrido, were also present. All of them were accompanied by the Minister of Agriculture and Livestock of the Cabildo of El Hierro, David Cabrera León.

From the City Council they explain that at the inauguration there was a tour of all the stalls and, later, tribute was paid to the people who have dedicated their entire lives to the primary sector, such as the farmer Francisco Clavijo Fernández, the livestock breeder Ascensión Ortega Betancort, the fisherman Claudio José Guadalupe Álvarez, and the new promises of the sector, such as the farmer Lourdes Clavijo Abreu, the livestock breeder Carolina Curbelo Valdivia and the fisherman Iván Páez Alemán.

“We are very proud to host in Teguise a fair that values ​​the quality of the products of the primary sector of Lanzarote and that opens to the public as an opportunity to show the greatness of the work of the countryside and the sea of ​​all the men and women who dedicate their lives to positioning our municipality as a leader in this field”, declared Oswaldo Betancort, taking the opportunity to launch a message of social and economic cohesion: “Lanzarote must unite to protect a local product of very high quality”.

The objective of FASAT is to bring citizens closer to the product of the primary sector and give more outlet to a great job that the professionals of the island do with great effort so that a key business model for Lanzarote does not disappear”, said the president of the federation, Omar Viñas.
