The Public Sector Procurement Platform has published the new tender to execute a project in the city of Arrecife, within the joint plans of the island's Ministry of Public Works and the Arrecife City Council to improve and beautify the margins of the island's roads, in their access to the capital of Lanzarote.
The Ministry of Public Works of the Cabildo de Lanzarote has put out to tender the landscaping improvement project for the access road to the capital via San Bartolomé, specifically in the section connecting Argana Baja with Argana Alta, one of the main access points to the city, via the main road that connects Arrecife with the municipalities in the geographical center of Lanzarote.
This strategic action will allow the conditioning of one of Arrecife's busiest road arteries with landscaping treatment, connecting the two most populated urban centers (Argana Alta and Argana Baja) adjacent to an island-wide road. The project, after its award, will improve the urban image of the entrance to the capital and move "towards a more sustainable, well-maintained, and cohesive city model," by promoting landscape integration, the renaturalization of the environment, and the improvement of public space, in a road section where industrial warehouses and the main access to the Doctor Molina Orosa University Hospital are located, in the Lanzarote capital.
The tender has already been published on the Public Sector Contracting Platform, dated December 29, and the period for interested companies to submit their offers is open, in accordance with the deadlines and conditions established in the tender file, which has a deadline for receipt of proposals until January 15, 2026. All technical and administrative documentation can be consulted on said platform.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, highlighted that "this project is part of the urban renaturalization process that the City Council is promoting in different neighborhoods and access points of the capital, with the aim of transforming degraded spaces into more pleasant and healthy environments".
“We continue to take firm steps towards a greener Arrecife, cohesive with its more integrated urban image. This action not only improves a fundamental access road, but also incorporates green areas and landscaping treatments that humanize the urban space and improve the surrounding environment,” said the mayor.
Likewise, Yonathan de León thanked the Minister of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina, for "continuing to collaborate closely with the capital on this type of project and intervention, highlighting institutional collaboration as key to continuing to advance in the transformation of the city". “I want to thank the Minister of Public Works for his involvement and continuous support for Arrecife. This collaboration allows us to carry out necessary projects that improve our access roads, reinforce the capital's image, and directly benefit our neighborhoods,” he added.
For his part, the Minister of Public Works of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina, valued this tender from an island perspective, highlighting that "it is an action that goes beyond the functional improvement of the road, directly impacting the urban image and landscape".
“From the Ministry of Public Works, we are committed to infrastructure that not only improves mobility and road safety, but also cares for the landscape and the environment. This action will allow for a comprehensive landscape improvement of the access to Arrecife, acting on slopes and concrete elements to visually integrate them into the urban environment,” explained Medina.
The island minister also stressed that this intervention continues the ‘Lanzarote en blanco’ (Lanzarote in white) project, promoted by the Cabildo, which includes the rehabilitation and painting of slopes, walls, and concrete surfaces on the island's road network, with the aim of offering a more homogeneous, well-maintained, and recognizable image of the island. “‘Lanzarote en blanco’ is a clear commitment to maintenance, the dignification of public space, and the enhancement of the landscape as a hallmark of Lanzarote. We continue to advance in this intervention model that is already notably improving the image of our roads,” added Jacobo Medina.
The tender for this project reinforces the institutional collaboration between the Arrecife City Council and the Cabildo of Lanzarote, consolidating a common roadmap to improve access to the capital, modernize infrastructure, and move towards sustainable urban development that is respectful of the environment.
