Miguel Ángel Jiménez, Councilor for Economy and Finance of Teguise, assures that the consistory "has already faced the payment of old invoices to the Insular de Aguas de Lanzarote (Inalsa), always looking after the interests of our fellow citizens." "Last year the payment of 1,458,000 euros was made, when they claimed 2.4 million," clarifies Jiménez in response to the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, who invited Teguise to pay off said debt through the media.
"We appreciate Loly Corujo's sudden concern for the debts of the City Council, but we remind her that we are in an open process with the company to avoid causing more damage to public coffers and the residents of Teguise for inherited debts," says Miguel Ángel Jiménez, surprised because "these delicate issues are being treated with so little rigor by the president of the Cabildo," to whom he recalled that "the principal has already been paid and what they intend is a robbery of the municipal coffers with that excessive amount in interest, an abuse that the president of the Cabildo herself protects."
"The institutional transparency of Teguise with respect to all public management is verifiable and with a simple call, I myself would have informed you of the status of negotiations with Inalsa, a company with which we are negotiating the fairest amount of late payment interest, which, as is obvious, we are trying to reduce as much as possible to reduce it by up to 67%, I insist, endorsed by economic advisors and in defense of our taxpayers."
Jiménez considers that "the calculation of said interest by Inalsa is far from the accounts made by the economist who supports the management of Teguise and, for that reason, we presented a counteroffer, valued at 215,000 euros, instead of the 651,000 that they claim from us. That was last June and we are waiting for a response to reach the most satisfactory agreement for the present and future of Teguise," explains Jiménez. "We understand that the debt inherited by this Government group must be resolved, and we will do so in order to continue advancing in responsible financial policies as we have done so far, achieving a historical milestone for the Teguise City Council, such as controlling the level of debt until achieving zero debt."
