The councilor in the Mixed Group Armando Santana has denounced "the absolute silence maintained by Canal Gestión Lanzarote since 2023", by failing to publish the annual report on water, a fundamental document to know the reality of the production, distribution and consumption of the most sensitive resource for Lanzarote.
“For more than a year we have not officially known how much water is produced, how much is lost, how much is billed or how much is reused. As of today, we still do not know how much energy is consumed in the facilities, the number of subscribers and the amount of water that is purified. And Canal Gestión used to provide all this data to the citizens on World Water Day, but it seems that they themselves have realized that there is nothing to celebrate anymore", he declares.
"An intolerable information blackout that should alarm all the people of Lanzarote”, continues Santana. The councilor has recalled that, until 2023, the population had access to key data thanks to this report, which included detailed information on the production of drinking water in all the plants, consumption by municipalities, billing, the use of tanks, the volume of reused water or losses in the network. “Fundamental data to evaluate the state of the system and demand responsibilities. Today, all that has disappeared", says Santana.
"The situation is aggravated by the constant breakdowns and daily cuts in towns throughout the island, which, according to Santana, demonstrate the company's total inability to guarantee a decent service. What is happening with water in Lanzarote is a disgrace. We live on an island where there are cuts every day, and people are starting to believe that anything can happen here... and no one responds. This negligence is endangering the daily lives of thousands of people”, he points out.
Santana accuses Canal Gestión Lanzarote of "hiding vital information that was previously published regularly". “This secrecy can only be explained by negligence or fear of showing a reality that has gotten out of hand. Water is a public good, not a business secret”, he says.
The councilor demands the immediate publication of updated data on the water cycle and an urgent audit of the state of the network. “Lanzarote cannot continue blindly", concludes Armando Santana.
