The San Bartolomé City Council held this Wednesday, April 29, a new session of the Municipal School Council, in which different actions regarding maintenance, educational projects, and new participation initiatives aimed at students were addressed.
During the meeting, a review was made of the maintenance and conservation work carried out throughout the school year in the municipality's educational centers, including gardening, cleaning, painting, and infrastructure improvement work. Likewise, information was provided on larger-scale projects, such as the gymnasium at CEIP Playa Honda, the pergola at CEIP Ajei, or the future pavilion in San Bartolomé, in addition to the drafting of reports for the creation of shaded areas in several centers in the municipality.
The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, highlighted that “the Municipal School Council is a key tool for continuing to improve the educational quality in our municipality. It allows us to listen to the educational community and move forward together on the real needs of our centers”.
In educational and cultural matters, the development of different initiatives in schools was highlighted, such as activities related to Book Day, the Inclusive Children's Film Festival, or the cultural revitalization program in educational centers, reinforcing the municipal commitment to education beyond the classroom.
For her part, the councilor for Education, Estefanía Luzardo, stressed that “we continue working to offer our students enriching educational experiences, betting on culture, inclusion and participation. Despite the limitations in competencies, from the City Council we continue to actively involve ourselves in everything that improves the day-to-day of our centers”.
One of the highlights was the launch of the Children's Council, a pioneering project in Lanzarote that will allow 5th-grade schoolchildren to actively participate in municipal life, submitting proposals and contributing to the construction of a municipality more adapted to their needs.
In addition, the installation of pictograms in educational centers to promote accessibility was reported, as well as collaboration with the AMPAS of the municipality, through subsidies and support actions throughout the course.
With this session, the San Bartolomé City Council "reaffirms its commitment to the educational community, promoting initiatives that foster participation, inclusion, and continuous improvement of the municipality's schools".
