The San Bartolomé City Council has reached an agreement for the reopening of the GR-131 rural road, a path located in the Montaña Guatisea area, in San Bartolomé, which in turn is part of the longer path and one of the busiest in Lanzarote

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, explained that they have worked hand in hand with the owner of the private property plot, since it was understood that the closure of the road was detrimental to the general interest. “As a solution to the problem, the modification of the road layout was resolved in the part that runs through the interior of the farm, moving it to the interior east and north edge of the same,” the mayor detailed.

In this sense, both parties have considered it appropriate and therefore agree to the contract for free transfer of use by the San Bartolomé City Council, opening the way for the GR-131 to become operational again.

The mayor has celebrated the consensus with the owner to ensure that the City Council's demand has finally become a reality and that this area is open again for hiking.

“We are satisfied that the efforts made to reopen the path have been fruitful, since it was detrimental to the enjoyment of this natural environment so appreciated by the population,” concluded Pérez.
