The San Bartolomé City Council celebrates the beginning of the soundproofing works on the homes in Playa Honda, an action long demanded by the City Council over the years and by the citizens of the municipality to AENA, which will significantly improve the quality of life of those who reside in this coastal area.

For many years, the residents of Playa Honda have suffered the effects of air traffic, a reality that has conditioned their daily lives due to the intensity and continuity of airport noise.

Aware of this problem, the San Bartolomé City Council initiated various institutional actions some time ago aimed at AENA, responsible for the César Manrique-Lanzarote Airport, assuming compensation measures to alleviate the acoustic impact, activating at the time an exclusive service office with the aim of advising, managing and processing neighborhood requests, directly channeling claims to the competent body.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, who has visited some of the homes where the works have begun, applauds that AENA finally materializes this demand, "responding to a historical demand that highlights the importance of institutional collaboration and neighborhood perseverance, advancing in a fair solution that will allow Playa Honda to finally have adequate acoustic conditions for the daily life of its residents."

The works are being carried out by AENA through a contractor for this purpose.

The Councilor for Economy and Finance, Victoriano Antonio Rocío, details that according to official data from the San Bartolomé City Council, "a total of 903 homes in the municipality have the right to request soundproofing, of which 632 submitted their request formally. At the present time, 601 homes have a favorable technical report, 564 have submitted acoustic insulation projects and 366 have registered the complete documentation in the management office, of which 37 homes have approved financing."

In the overall plan, AENA has started this summer the first interventions on 48 homes, while others are in the acceptance phase by the owners or in the technical evaluation process, so that a second phase of work will begin in early 2026.

The mayor of San Bartolomé, Isidro Pérez, clarifies that it is a long and complex process, subject to technical and administrative procedures, but that "the priority of the government team of the San Bartolomé City Council is to continue working tirelessly with AENA, until the more than 900 families with the right to acoustic insulation have their well-being guaranteed."

In this sense, the San Bartolomé City Council wants to thank "the willingness of AENA with whom it will maintain a permanent dialogue to facilitate that these actions are expedited as much as possible."
