The transformation works of Portugal Street in Arrecife are in the "final stretch", which will allow its "reopening to traffic this September", reports the Arrecife City Council. Yonathan de León has been this Tuesday morning supervising "directly" the resurfacing works of this neuralgic road, which connects Triana and Blas Cabrera Topham streets, in the neighborhood of La Vega.

In this street, "two works" have been executed in parallel. "One in the subsoil, to undertake the installation of the new rainwater network; and another on the surface, with the improvement of accessibility and new sidewalks throughout the road, without architectural barriers."

The rainwater works have been undertaken by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, as a result of the fact that in that area of the capital a "critical point" has been historically registered in periods of heavy rain. For its part, the other important parallel work has allowed the action to "change the urban image of this street, with its global transformation, and has been executed and financed by the Arrecife City Council." In parallel, the "resurfacing of Doctor Fleming and Paraguay streets, which cross with Portugal and Triana streets, which recently premiered new asphalt pavement" has been completed.

For the first time, a section of Portugal Street will have "tree pits for trees, where they are expected to reach great size after being planted." The capital's mayor has proposed, together with his Government group, that the "new urban transformation works of the streets" of the municipality be "equipped with trees to generate shade areas and beautify the urban landscape", with a coastal and port past.

Yonathan de León had requested "celerity from the company awarded this work so that the works could be completed coinciding with the opening of the school year." The Las Nazarenas and La Destila schools are located nearby. The municipal planning has allowed the "works on La Inés, Portugal and surrounding streets to be completed in September, with the start of the school year that generates greater mobility and traffic in the morning and midday hours in the surroundings of the educational centers in the central area of the capital".

The urban transformation of Portugal Street on its surface "was tendered and started in the previous term", under the stage of Mayor Astrid Pérez. In these months back, the works focused mainly on "the connections and canalizations".

"The installation of the rainwater network was carried out by the Cabildo of Lanzarote, which still has in project a second phase with the construction of a 'storm tank' that will go in the subsoil of the area destined for children's park, between Argentina and Portugal streets." When this second phase of rainwater is executed, presumably in this new term, "a new children's park will be installed on its roof, in line with the modernization of all the children's parks in Arrecife."

The first mayor, who advanced that "Portugal Street will be reopened to traffic in this second half of September", advanced that the Arrecife City Council has in place "a powerful Municipal Resurfacing Plan for several neighborhoods of the municipality."
