The PSOE of Arrecife denounces that the mayor, Yonathan de León, and the councilor for Finance and Festivals, Echedey Eugenio, used their majority in the Plenary Session of last Monday, September 14, to approve more than 3 million euros in payments despite the objections formulated by the new municipal Intervention.
For the socialists, the modus operandi is: spend first, ignore the technicians' warnings later, and use the plenary session for outrageous expenses.
“Yonathan de León and Echedey Eugenio believe they are above the law, and that the municipal technicians' reports are worthless,” denounces the socialist councilor, Cristina Duque.
“Governing as if the City Council were a party”
The PSOE considers it especially serious that an expense of this magnitude has reached the Plenary Session accompanied by objections from Intervention, with devastating reports: “We are talking about more than three million euros of public money. And when municipal technicians raise objections, the response of this Government is more parties and lifting of objections,” points out Duque. The socialist accuses Yonathan de León's Government of having made the objections of Intervention something “habitual,” to mock the technicians and justice. “I think that the day an payment file does not have an objection warning of a gross illegality, Echedey and Yonathan will not approve it,” comments Duque.
“Millions again for the festivals”
The PSOE also denounces that the majority of these payments are related to the festivals. As Duque says: "Millions again. Festivals again; Intervention objections again. And Yonathan de León and Echedey Eugenio again breaking the law with impunity,” summarizes Cristina Duque. The government group has no limits when it comes to “burning” money on festivals, but it does when we talk about attending to other needs of Arrecife.
