Primero Teguise asks Oswaldo Betancort to "defend the construction of the new educational center" in Costa Teguise, showing "anger" with the budgets of the Government of the Canary Islands. Specifically, with CC, PP and the rest of the parties that make up the autonomous executive, "do not include any item for the creation of the Infant and Primary School of Costa Teguise" and with it the elimination of the famous 'barracks'.
In this sense, PTG recalls that the Costa Teguise school was created in 2008 with the so-called 'barracks' on a provisional basis, but the truth is that 25 years later, it is still "not responding to the demands of both the educational community and the AMPA and the students themselves", who have repeatedly requested the "construction of the new center and the elimination of the current modules".
“The Minister of Education of the Island Council of Lanzarote had already said that for CC the elimination of the 'barracks' was not a priority, but we did not think that it was a priority for the PP either, which is who holds the Ministry of Education”, says the Spokesperson of Primero Teguise, Jonás Álvarez.
And it is that the Canarian budgets for the next year 2024 "do not contemplate the construction of the 'CEIP of Costa Teguise'", after the last legislature, specifically last year, the drafting of the project for the new center was awarded. According to the spokesperson, “now we understand that the island's Minister of Education did not apologize for her statements, because they were not unfortunate, but rather the prelude to what the CC and PP government foresees”.
Already in the last Municipal School Council, held last October, both the management and the association of parents of the center, showed their "disagreement" with these statements, but "demanded solutions" to the elimination of the barracks, and both the municipal government group, composed of CC, PP and VOX, as well as the island's Director of Education, stated that the new center was "a priority and they were working on it". 'It was nothing more than getting out
of the way and continuing to deceive us', says Jonás Álvarez in this regard.
Primero Teguise asks Oswaldo Betancort to "defend the construction of the new educational center" in Costa Teguise, as "he wanted to make us see that he defended it in the last legislature, as well as the rest of the parliamentarians of our island": 'the construction of the new Costa Teguise school is urgent, a center that meets the best conditions to house the 630 students it currently has'.
'The construction of the new Costa Teguise school is urgent'
We also understand now that, in a "display of arrogance", the mayor Olivia Duque "did not approve the urgency of the motion" presented by Primero Teguise to the last ordinary municipal plenary session, rejecting the words of the island councilor, 'unfortunately the government group of Teguise also changes its opinion, with the change of representatives, with respect to the barracks of Costa Teguise”, concludes Álvarez.
