Primero Teguise has shown its "anger" with the Canary Islands Government's budgets for Lanzarote in 2025, in which, when broken down, "it can be seen that there is no amount dedicated to the construction of the new CEO of Costa Teguise."
“Once again, CC and PP show their disinterest and contempt for education in the municipality of Teguise and the residents of Costa Teguise, by not allocating any funds for the construction of the school in the town," says Jonás Álvarez, leader of the municipalist formation.
"And Primero Teguise recalls that the Costa Teguise school will celebrate its 20th anniversary among barracks, with years and years of patches and improvisations in which the demands of the educational community, the AMPA and the students themselves, who have been demanding for a decade the construction of the new center and the elimination of the current modules, are still not being met," he says.
"Neither the AMPA nor the teaching staff have been listened to, who demand decent facilities and that the containers that make up the center, which are the entirety of it, be eliminated,” says Álvarez.
The elimination of barracks has been carried out throughout the Canary Islands, progressively removing them in those centers where they existed. But the CEIP of Costa Teguise is entirely integrated by these infrastructures, and "the creation of a new center that improves the conditions in which both teachers and students spend an entire school year is not taken as a priority."
For Primero Teguise, "it is time to confront reality and address the demands of the municipality, and invest in educational improvements and create decent infrastructures." “We have not heard a single critical voice from our mayoress of the Education Department after the Canary Islands Government's budgets were revealed. Don't they see it as a priority? Shouldn't we residents be taking advantage of the fact that the same parties govern both the Canary Islands Government, the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the Teguise City Council? And why then is Teguise being ignored and the construction of our new school postponed again?” Jonás asks the media.
"Both CC and the Popular Party displace the town since they are not capable of prioritizing investments in education,” says the spokesperson for the municipalist formation, who also concludes ¨this pact between CC and PP, both municipal, island and regional, has not solved the problems that Teguise continues to drag. If they are the ones who draft the budgets, the ones who approve and execute them, what excuse will they give us this 2025 when for the umpteenth time we demand the new School together with the families?”
