The healthcare activity in Primary Care of the Lanzarote Health Area, attached to the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, registered a significant increase throughout 2025 close to 5% compared to the previous year. In total, 1,874,849 consultations were attended.
The multidisciplinary teams of the health centers and local clinics, integrated by professionals from Medicine, Family and Community Nursing, Pediatrics, Physiotherapy, Psychology, Speech Therapy and Social Work, among other care areas, attended a greater number of consultations in most areas, which consolidates the role of Primary Care as the axis of the island's health system.
The healthcare activity in figures
Family Medicine consultations, the most numerous in Primary Care, increased by more than 8% to reach 786,701, a figure that had not been reached previously.
For its part, the activity of Family and Community Nursing also grew by more than 8%, with a total of 384,514 consultations, while Pediatrics maintained a stable evolution, with nearly 12,000 consultations, a figure 2% higher compared to the previous year.
Also noteworthy is the increase in the activity of psychologists who provide comprehensive and personalized care in health centers and Primary Care clinics. In 2025, they attended a total of 13,351 consultations in the different basic health zones and exceeded their activity by more than three percent, which reflects the reinforcement of mental health care at the first level of care.
As for Physiotherapy, 121,372 consultations were registered, which represents a four percent growth compared to 2024.
The growth in the activity of Primary Care midwives, over 20%, stands out above all. This healthcare group attended a total of 36,039 consultations during 2025.
On the other hand, the teams of Social Work, Liaison Nursing, Speech Therapy and Dentistry also carried out important care work during the past year, contributing to comprehensive, close and multidisciplinary care for the population of Lanzarote.
Decrease in out-of-hospital emergencies
In the field of urgent care, consultations in out-of-hospital emergencies decreased by around 11%. Specifically, medical attendances decreased by 10.8%, going from 179,644 in 2024 to 160,074 in the past year, while those of Nursing decreased by more than 10%, going from l178,810 to 160,407.
This decrease evidences a better adequacy of healthcare demand and the resolution of processes within the scope of Primary Care.
Boost to minor surgery and diagnostic tests
On the other hand, the number of diagnostic and therapeutic tests performed by Primary Care professionals is very significant. The increase in Minor Surgery stands out, growing by 20% to reach 1,448 interventions.
Likewise, abdominal ultrasounds increase by 17%, with a total of 2,294 tests performed, which strengthens the diagnostic capacity of health centers.
In addition, teledermatology is consolidated, with 2,045 registered actions, favoring accessibility and the reduction of waiting times.
Continuous, accessible, and quality care
The director of Primary Care, María Eugenia Perdomo, emphasizes that “these data reflect the commitment and involvement of the multidisciplinary Primary Care teams, who offer close, accessible, and quality care to the population”.
Perdomo also highlights that “the increase in healthcare activity and the promotion of diagnostic techniques allow for improving the problem-solving capacity of health centers, strengthening prevention and advancing in the comprehensive approach to citizens' health problems”.
