The Security and Emergency Consortium of Lanzarote and La Graciosa has started preparations to guarantee security on San Juan night, the eve of June 24, with a first meeting with the seven town councils of the island.

“Coordination between administrations is essential so that citizens are aware of all the necessary measures to avoid possible accidents,” said the president of the Consortium, Francisco J. Aparicio, who thanked the town councils and the different security forces that met this Wednesday at the Consortium headquarters.

In this meeting, the different measures that the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium recommends that citizens follow during that night were explained, such as choosing a safe place; avoid the proximity of the bonfire to vehicles and power lines; stay six meters away from the fire; clean the area to prevent its spread; avoid using light materials that may come off; watch the fire; make sure the fire is well extinguished before finishing; collect waste and make sure the place is clean.

Aparicio also appeals to the “common sense” of citizens during this festive day, as well as contacting the emergency services. “Citizens, if they have any questions, can contact the telephone number 928 804 004 24 hours a day,” concluded Aparicio.
