The Popular Party of Lanzarote and La Graciosa denounces, once again, the absolute and unjustified abandonment by the Government of Spain towards the islands in matters of immigration, after the new increase this Monday with the almost simultaneous rescue of four boats with more than 250 people and seven deceased -two of them on a boat and the other five who were "thrown overboard" according to information obtained by the EFE Agency-.
The president of the popular party of Lanzarote and La Graciosa assures that this situation "is completely intolerable". "This same situation happens every so often, an increase in makeshift boats that are rescued on our coasts and that pushes resources to the limit, while the Government of Spain does absolutely nothing," laments María Jesús Tovar.
In this regard, Tovar recalls that the last time the Popular Party denounced this situation was on October 19. "Not even a month has passed and we see that exactly the same thing continues to happen: another tragedy in the face of the silence of the deputy, the senator, and the insular director of the State Administration," she emphasizes.
Likewise, Tovar points out that this massive arrival in a single day highlights the terrible conditions in which the Temporary Center for Foreigner Care (CATE) is located, right in the center of Arrecife with capacity for about 150 people.
"Right now, this center, which we have always denounced as not being in minimum conditions nor in the ideal location, is completely overwhelmed with people even seriously injured, which puts the NGOs that collaborate with the migrants arriving on our coasts in serious difficulty," denounces the president.
"In October alone, more than 20 makeshift boats with more than 4,000 people and nearly a dozen deceased have arrived in the Canary Islands. It is a real tragedy that Mr. Sánchez is incapable of seeing," laments Tovar.
For all these reasons, the Popular Party of Lanzarote and La Graciosa once again calls on the Government of Spain for serious, urgent, and efficient measures to alleviate this situation, which poses a risk both to the migrant people crossing the Atlantic and to our services.
