The President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has sent a message of support and "affection" to the mayor of San Bartolomé, Alexis Tejera, after he has made public that he suffers from ALS.
Sánchez wrote on his social networks: "My affection today to Alexis Tejera, mayor of San Bartolomé, in Lanzarote, who, after being diagnosed with ALS, has explained that he will continue in the mayor's office 'with more strength than ever'. It is a pride to share a party with people like Alexis. You are an example of commitment and overcoming".

Also Ángel Víctor Torres, President of the Canary Islands, has published on his Twitter some words of support: "A true example of a brave man: a magnificent colleague who gives a lesson in commitment".
This Wednesday the mayor of San Bartolomé has sent a letter to the residents of the municipality and to the media where he announced his illness and his decision to continue at the head of the Mayor's Office.
