The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, called this Monday on the new Standing Committee of the Youth Council to "push" the autonomous government to address the demands of young people, of the "present and future" of the islands. During the inauguration ceremony of the new members of this body, Clavijo thanked its members for taking a step forward, a commitment and gesture of generosity with the archipelago that encouraged them to continue in the exercise of their functions.
This challenge was assumed by the president of the Standing Committee of the Youth Council, Eliana Parrilla. In her speech, she guaranteed that they will "work for the rights of the youngest people in the Canary Islands and for their real participation" in decision-making by the autonomous Executive. Parrilla thanked the youth organizations of the archipelago for "their support".
The president of the Canary Islands was accompanied at the event by the Minister of Social Welfare, Equality, Youth, Childhood and Families, Candelaria Delgado, the Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Food Sustainability, Narvay Quintero, and the general director of Youth, Daniel Morales.
After the inauguration of the new team, Fernando Clavijo announced a reinforcement in the staff of the General Directorate of Youth and announced that in the subsequent Governing Council it was planned to approve the hiring of seven professionals who will facilitate the implementation of new programs and make the "ambitious" objectives set by the Youth Law a reality.
The head of the autonomous government also referred to the process that this department has initiated to develop with broad consensus the first Comprehensive Youth Plan (PIJC) that will guide the action roadmap until 2030. This is a comprehensive strategy of objectives and actions that will become a reality in the next five years.
Fernando Clavijo congratulated the new team of the Youth Council of the Canary Islands and praised their work as an advisory body for the development and promotion of youth policies. "We want them to accompany us, to help us, to point out where the problems really are, to contribute their ideas, but above all we need them to challenge us, to question us and to challenge us to implement the policies that are really going to improve the lives of young people," he said.
The new commission of the Youth Council of the Canary Islands is headed by Eliana Parrilla and has Gabriel Castellano (New Generations) as first vice president; Carla Sosa (Nexo) as second vice president; Idafe Hernández (UDECA) as secretary; François de Moreno (ROTARACT) as treasurer; and Carlos Jiménez (AMIAT) and Nira Pulido (Young Nationalists of the Canary Islands) as members.
