The candidate of Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista (NC-BC) to the Presidency of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa in the elections of this coming May 28, Óscar Noda, has visited these days the town of Órzola, in Haría, and its port, which connects the Island of Los Volcanes with the Eighth Island, after which he has announced his commitment to boost the economy of the north with, among other measures, various improvements to be developed in this dock.

"The Port of Órzola is a strategic port for the island's economy. It is the connection point with the Eighth Island. It moves 500,000 passengers a year and is not in adequate conditions," warns Noda. Therefore, the Canarian candidate has announced that, "as a candidate of Nueva Canarias to the Cabildo, I will put my efforts to improve the conditions of this strategic port."

Among other demands of Órzola that the Advisory Council of Canarian Ports already knows, are the need to take measures on the control of fuel spills or regulate the schedules of shipping companies, since the activity of these has been increasing considerably in recent times. Another important need is the limitation of noise pollution caused by the companies that operate in the dock, with the exception of mandatory maneuvers.

In this sense, Noda points out that "something has already been achieved in this legislature thanks to the amendments presented by Nueva Canarias in Parliament, with which it has been achieved that the Government of the Canary Islands provides 200,000 euros an important investment item to be able to undertake accessibility works precisely in this port." The candidate for the presidency of the Cabildo has referred to the amendments presented by the Canarians last December, which allowed the Government of the Canary Islands to approve, at the request of NC, its incorporation into the General Budgets of the Canary Islands for 2023. The aforementioned 200,00 euros have been allocated to the drafting of the future project to improve the Port of Órzola. This "is a demand of the people of Órzola and, in general, of the society of the north of Lanzarote", explained Noda.

The Canarian candidate to the Lanzarote Corporation warns that this Port of Órzola is closely linked to an identity activity such as fishing throughout the Canary Islands, and especially on the island of Lanzarote. "This is an activity that has undoubtedly been losing weight, has seen how the number of families employed and the boats used has been reduced but, on the contrary, in the case of Órzola the opposite has happened: the number of boats has been growing, in many cases with young owner sailors that we have to support as part of the Primary Sector of Lanzarote", he emphasizes.

Noda was accompanied on his visit to the north of Lanzarote, among others, by the candidate of Nueva Canarias-Frente Amplio Canarista (NC-FAC) to the Mayoralty of Haría in the elections next Sunday, Marcos Lemes. "This is a magnificent port through which half a million people pass every year," Lemes said during the tour of the port facilities. The Canarian candidate is committed to continue giving more possibilities of operability to the Port of Órzola and to definitively improve the connections with this important dock.

"We have to provide it with adequate public transport, not only for the residents of the town of Órzola, but also for the municipality of Haría and for the entire northern region," he says. According to Lemes, this "is a demand that our neighbors of Órzola convey to us daily, so we have to provide it with a one hundred percent dignified public transport."

Fishing and commercial port

It should be remembered that on March 2, during the last Debate on the State of the Canarian Nationality, the parliamentary Group of Nueva Canarias claimed and managed to get ahead, in one of the 46 proposals for resolution contributed by the Canarians in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, that the autonomous Government initiate the process to consider the dock of Órzola as a fishing and commercial port. "The objective is to give continuity to the activity of the 18 boats, with the forecast of becoming 20 shortly, with 22 families working in the dock of Órzola, which operate in this port", recalls Marcos Lemes, as revealed in his day by the national spokesman of NC, Luis Campos.

"The Port of Órzola has to be transformed into a port of the 21st century, modern, sustainable and that substantially improves the economy of the northern region and, in turn, of the island of La Graciosa, but including in its commercial activity the coexistence with the fishing activity", remarks Marcos Lemes.

The candidate for the northern Mayoralty has shown his satisfaction for the fact that the Canarians have been until now "the only ones who have put the name of Haría on the table of the Parliament of the Canary Islands", "both for this issue that affects the category of the Port of Órzola and for the Non-Law Proposal (PNL) approved unanimously in the Parliament itself so that the health center of Mala has soon the implementation of 24-hour health care", a proposal that saw the green light but that from the insular Management of Health until now "have not known or have not wanted to execute and carry out".
