The mayor of Yaiza and president of Unidos Por Yaiza (UPY), Óscar Noda, has indicated that he does not understand the unilateral rupture by Coalición Canaria (CC) of the government pact, since "the reasons are not justified," so he defends that "the pact table was a circumstantial excuse."
Noda has indicated to La Voz that they have done it "without holding a pact table that could have been carried out without problem," and has defended that "there are not enough reasons" to have made this decision.
"We did not break when in 2021 they tried to make a motion of censure against us. We acted with a cool head and thinking that, what we are here for, is to move the municipality forward."
A pact table that has functioned as an "excuse"
The mayor explains that the realization of the pact table has been delayed over time due to "agenda issues."
As he says, UPY proposed January 10 for its implementation, "but there was never a response to that appointment" beyond an email sent the day before that "never arrived."
After several days, CC launched an ultimatum last Thursday the 12th that obtained a negative response from UPY, "and we summoned them for Friday the 20th, but it seems that it has not been worth it to them," explains Noda.
Based on this, he declares that “the monitoring table of the pact is a circumstantial excuse, because CC wanted to break the municipal pact yes or yes, and has demonstrated it by doing it unilaterally.”
It would be a "mistake" for the CC councilors to leave
Regarding what will be the future of the CC councilors, the president explains that he has not yet been able to sit down with them, but that "it would be a mistake" to do without "people who are involved and have worked for the municipality."
"They have shown that they have worked for the town, carrying out projects that previous colleagues could not," he argues, and relates that with Ángel Domínguez "we have worked well since the beginning of the legislature" and then in replacement of Emilio Machín the colleague Fátima Viñoly joined, "who has also done a good job unblocking the opening of the Uga Market, which Machín was not able to open."
Taking this into account, the president wonders if "the tantrum" of breaking the pact is not due to the fact that Emilio Machín stopped collecting from the City Council "and now wants to appear in his condition as a candidate for the Mayor of Yaiza with media hits, because of work and results very little."
For the moment, according to the mayor, none of the councilors has presented a formal resignation, there is only a statement from the party where they are asked to leave the group.
Noda will put aside "these political distractions"
Faced with this situation, Noda has launched a message of calm to the people of Yaiza: "When we signed this pact at the beginning of the legislature we were looking for stability, and from UPY we have ensured that and we are going to continue doing so."
The representative of Yaiza has advanced that he is not going to waste more time with "these political distractions", but that he is going to focus on working on "important projects" for the improvement of the town, such as "the pavilion, the improvement of playgrounds or the renovations of sports courts", among others.
In that sense, he concludes by stating that "the departure of the CC group will not in any way mean the paralysis of the city council".
