The island secretary of Coalición Canaria Lanzarote, Migdalia Machín, has written to the mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, requesting the convocation of the monitoring table of the pact that the nationalist formation and Unidos por Yaiza (UPY) signed after the 2019 elections.
Machín states that "the agreement reached then was not what CC would have liked (only two of the four CC councilors have government areas) but it was accepted because at that time it was the only possibility to give governability to the southern Consistory and work for and for the residents of Yaiza".
However, the nationalist leader does not fail to recognize that with the passage of time the relations between both government partners have been strained, to the point of snubbing Emilio Machín, councilor in the City Council and CC candidate for Mayor of Yaiza in May 2023.
"The colleague Emilio has conveyed to the party leadership that he cannot even adequately perform his work as a councilor because, among other things, the mayor not only refuses to provide information but prevents the City Council technicians from doing so," Machín points out.
The island secretary also points out that this is the first time that CC has requested that the pact table be convened throughout the entire term, although, she assures, there have been reasons to do so in these years. "We have not done it for the stability of the municipality, but at this point, we believe that there are many issues to clarify, many explanations to give, and many decisions to make."
For his part, Emilio Machín adds that the straw that broke the camel's back of disagreements between both formations has been the issue of the 7,000 euros that the Councilor for Festivities spent on mobile telephony while on a cruise, and the mayor's attempts to justify this unprecedented event.
"It is not enough to say that he did not realize and that he will pay the bill when we are talking about public money," emphasizes the CC candidate for Mayor, who assures that "Óscar Noda has tried to justify the unjustifiable, seeking a quick exit in the face of public opinion pressure, but it is not enough."
