Olivia Duque describes Marcos Bergaz as "tiresome" and accuses him of "seeking notoriety"

The Councilor for Urban Planning of the Teguise City Council, Olivia Duque, describes it as "tiresome" that the socialist councilor Marcos Bergaz requests extraordinary plenary sessions asking "about the same issues that have been answered previously." In this line, she has accused the PSOE spokesperson in the municipality of "exclusively seeking notoriety with this and taking time away from the government group to be able to address the real problems of the residents.”

Duque has stated that she reminded Marcos Bergaz that the gardens tender for the entire municipality "had to be stopped during the pandemic, because other more urgent priorities were given." Among these points, she stressed that at that time priority was given to paying for water, electricity and the shopping basket for people who were left without income "and who came to the City Council with the extract of their accounts in hand demonstrating that they did not have money to face the day to day.”

The nationalist councilor explained that “we had to come to the rescue of an avalanche of requests for help” and added that many of those residents “were workers in the tourism sector in Costa Teguise.”

“They know very well that they were bogged down in paperwork” due to delays in the processing of the ERTES and due to “the bureaucracy of the PSOE and Podemos. So if we had not allocated double the staff to Social Services and part of our budget to assist them, we would now be talking about a social tragedy,” Duque has stated.

In this sense, she has asked Bergaz about “what would you have prioritized: helping people in emergency situations or the beautification of the green areas of Costa Teguise?” For Duque “it is essential to first address the real needs and not pregnant 'arbolistos'”.

A "more ambitious" tender

The Councilor for Urban Planning has reported in plenary session that the technicians are already working on a “more ambitious tender” that will be put out to tender when it passes all the procedures and “for which, now yes, we have economic solvency thanks to the zero debt that we have achieved.”

On the other hand, Olivia Duque has explained that thanks to the “effort of the municipal staff” and the employment agreements “a shock plan for the palm trees of Costa Teguise is being carried out”

The Councilor for Urban Planning recalled that “this tourist town has the largest palm grove on the island with 10,000 specimens, located in the urban area” and that is why she said that “I miss a greater involvement of the Cabildo with the maintenance of the same or with the cleaning of the margins of the island roads.”

“When we are told about the poor condition of the palm trees of Costa Teguise, the palm grove of Haría always comes to mind, which suffers from water stress, or I remember that more than half of the palm trees of Lanzarote are affected by a plague, with those of Teguise being the least damaged by the weevil,” said Duque.
