Nueva Canarias-Bloque Canarista has reached an agreement with Sumar to jointly participate in the European elections to be held on June 9 and will have a position among the top 20 names.
According to statements to EFE by the spokesperson for Nueva Canarias, Luis Campos, the electoral program of the confluence will include a specific section with Canarian content and a commitment to transfer to Europe the differential reality of the Canary Islands and its demands.
For Campos, this decision reflects the intention of Nueva Canarias to compete with left-wing and nationalist parties with whom they share a vision on the European construction model, "more social and with human rights at the center."
"It is an important agreement and these are crucial elections, at a time not only because of the pre-war nature but also because of the foreseeable rise of the right and the extreme right, so it is relevant that the left-wing spaces have representation," Campos elaborates, who assumes that the position on the list is not the most important and also that it is difficult to achieve an MEP from NC.
In any case, he has pointed out that the important thing is to "be there, come together and be able to convey the vision of Nueva Canarias on the archipelago and the Europe of the peoples, in addition to having interlocution to defend the demands of the Canary Islands."
Thus, in the coming days there will be an executive meeting of the party to endorse the joint electoral program for the European elections and decide who will be the representative of Nueva Canarias in the coalition. EFE
