The mayor of Yaiza and president of Unidos por Yaiza (UPY), Óscar Noda, has once again demanded "institutional loyalty" from the president of the Cabildo after seeing "how the press is convened to present the Management Plan for the Los Volcanes Natural Park accompanied only by the City Council of Tinajo and Gesplan, ignoring the City Council of Yaiza, which has 46% of the entire Park."
For the southern mayor, it has been "one more grievance to the residents of Yaiza, since not counting on the City Council in the previous negotiations de facto implies no participation in the elaboration of the guidelines that will mark this important document for the co-management of the Los Volcanes Natural Park", where the municipality of Tinajo has a total of 5,575 hectares and the municipality of Yaiza has 4,582 hectares.
“Either the president is determined to discriminate against Yaiza or he is unaware of the island's geography”, emphasizes the southern leader, also stating that “the slight is not against Óscar Noda, but against all the residents of Yaiza, whom I represent and with an absolute majority”, he highlighted.
"To make things very clear", the mayor added that “today's photo is the least of it, what really worries us is the dictatorial way, this way of governing unilaterally, where they do not reflect even the slightest respect for local institutions. And this way of acting is very surprising from someone who has been mayor for more than ten years”.
Noda has asked for a "pedagogical effort, rapprochement and, above all, institutional loyalty with local administrations" and has demanded "real efforts to work, truly, jointly with local administrations" since, once again, “the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote forgets to negotiate the sectoral planning plans with the affected city councils, such as the Special Plan of La Geria, the PIOT, the actions within the Insular Water Consortium and other decisions taken unilaterally without, in some cases, having sufficient power to do so”.
The island councilor has also reminded the president “that the representation of the Island is not only delegated to the Cabildo Insular of Lanzarote, the representation of the Island is also delegated to its city councils, which are the ones that suffer most directly each and every one of the problems that our citizens have on a daily basis".
According to Noda, the president "has quickly forgotten that he only won by 69 votes, this fact should remind him that he will not always have a sufficient majority to unilaterally carry out what suits him, at some point he will need us, therefore, I demand that he arm himself with emotional intelligence and the ability to agree because if he continues in that direction he will be condemning Lanzarote to institutional paralysis”.
The Los Volcanes Natural Park includes the southern territory as the coastal nucleus of El Golfo, so much so that "not long ago the City Council modified the sanitation project to be able to adapt its execution to the regulations" linked to the Park.
Thus, he has stated that “even the president had the nerve to present himself as the savior of the project, lying and blatantly ignoring that the local Administration drafted the project, obtained the financing with the State and has made every effort to execute it. For not complying, the president has not even complied with the cleaning workers that he promised to the residents themselves to clean the surroundings of Charco Los Clicos and Los Hervideros, because let alone the repair of the sinkhole, with v, of the Los Hervideros road that he assured he would solve as soon as he took the baton”.
