The mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, met this Monday at the Casa de la Cultura with a dozen businessmen who have interests in Playa Blanca and the tourism employers' association Asolan to inform them about the content of the agreement between the Ministry of Territorial Policy of the Canary Islands Government and the Cabildo of Lanzarote that legitimizes the island's First Corporation to formulate the Playa Blanca Tourist Modernization Plan. The municipal leader called for sanity "not to turn the processing of the General Plan of Yaiza and the Playa Blanca Tourist Modernization Plan into a race to see who gets there first".
Óscar Noda, who missed political representation from the Cabildo, although the president had been invited, maintained that “given the opportunity we have to take a step forward in the reorganization of the municipality, the most sensible thing is for there to be total harmony between both documents and the Insular Plan so that they respond to the needs for housing and hydraulic and sanitation infrastructure, among others. We understand development as a whole”.
Once the approval of the Tourism Modernization Plan agreement, the bidding process, and the award for its drafting have been completed, the mayor will once again bring together the developers for a more technical meeting to hear and study their contributions "as we are doing with residents and business owners with the General Plan in its drafting phase."
The mayor estimated that "the Cabildo must inform the City Council punctually of all steps, so I just hope they change their attitude. They still have time, now that we are starting the process for the Playa Blanca Tourism Modernization Plan." Of course, Yaiza appreciates the Cabildo's contribution of 450,000 euros for the design of this Plan.
Regarding the General Plan of Yaiza, the mayor reported on his meeting last week with the counselor of Territorial Policy of the Canary Islands Government, Manuel Miranda: "We are going to put the drafting team in contact with the Environmental Body, since we have transferred those powers to the regional Executive, so that there is maximum consensus. I asked the counselor to please inform the Plan within the established deadline for its study with the aim of having the first draft as soon as possible."
