The Councilor for Urban Planning, Health, Housing, Cadastre and Social Services of Yaiza, Karina Centeno, has resigned and left the minutes as councilor of the southern City Council.
In the letter of resignation to which La Voz has had access, the councilor argues that she is leaving "for not feeling comfortable within my government group, as well as for strictly professional reasons I am obliged to renounce the act and position of councilor of the City Council." In addition, Centeno thanks the residents of Yaiza "for the trust placed in the UPY candidacy that was the most voted in the last municipal elections. I am proud to have been able to participate and actively work in the management of municipal politics in Yaiza and I remain at the disposal of my neighbors."
After the news was known, the mayor, Óscar Noda, in a press release states that “the resignation of a party colleague is never pleasant, but I respect his determination and I want to thank Karina for the time dedicated to public management during the current term, and also, of course, wish her the greatest success in the performance of her profession as a lawyer.”
It is not the first resignation of a UPY councilor, since last July, Javier, Camacho, Councilor for Festivities of Yaiza, also resigned “for strictly personal and family reasons.” Rumors have been pointing for months to a significant crisis in the ranks of UPY and it is even suggested that there could be some more resignations. So far, the party has not made any communication in this regard.
