The New Canaries Committee of San Bartolomé wanted to convey the "discomfort of the residents" with the provision of the municipal urban waste collection service.
The Canarians consider that "it is deficient" and that "it is further aggravated during weekends in towns such as Playa Honda." For Pablo Yebra, municipal spokesperson for the formation, “the service provided is not in accordance with the increase in the population census presented by the town, with a large number of vacation homes and businesses that generate much more waste in summer seasons.”
NC believes that the service should be reinforced at that time with greater frequency in its collection, since “it is unacceptable to see the
containers overflowing with waste on numerous streets of the municipality first thing in the morning.”

For the formation, "the reality of San Bartolomé is far from what the government group, headed by Mayor Alexis Tejera, sells in press releases." “There are no
public policies aimed at sustainability or environmental quality,” says Pablo Yebra. In addition, NC echoes the "neighborhood complaints about the bad odors and sources of infection that are generated in certain areas, aggravated by the high temperatures that have been occurring in the month of August."
NC does not consider it ethical "to try to sell a green and sustainable municipality without a comprehensive plan in accordance with the development objectives and urban agenda dictated by the EU. “The mayor and his government group are doing a kind of Greenwashing. Making it appear that their policies are green, such as putting plants on roundabouts, while leaving the true transformation that San Bartolomé needs adrift,” denounce the Canarians.
