The mayor of Tías, José Juan Cruz Saavedra, accompanied by the Councilor for the Environment, Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, today signed the City Council's letter of adhesion to the European Mobility Week #MobilityWeek, the eighth consecutive year of this ratification.
Through this signature, it commits to carrying out activities that raise awareness about sustainable mobility. The program planned by the Tías City Council will consist of two days of awareness-raising dynamics that will take place on September 22 and 24 in different spaces under the umbrella of the European slogan for 2026: “Mobility for people”.
The first event will take place on Tuesday the 22nd, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, in the town of Tegoyo, where Car-Free Day will be celebrated with an Orienteering and Road Safety Race, a recreational-sports activity that combines different orientation tools, promoting learning and respect for traffic and pedestrian safety rules.
The second event will be held on Thursday, September 24, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, in the new Tajinaste Park, Tías, where a scavenger hunt with workshops and music related to mobility for all people will be held, and La Musicleta will be offered, a mobile and itinerant stage with a self-sufficient electric bicycle that brings cultural shows to public spaces.
José Juan Cruz points out that “European Mobility Week is an opportunity to remember that the way we move also has a lot to do with the municipality we want to build: a more accessible, safer municipality designed for people”.
Carmen Gloria Rodríguez emphasizes that “from the City Council, we want sustainable mobility not to remain solely a declaration of intent, but to reach citizens through participatory activities designed for all ages. Therefore, this year we are once again adhering for the eighth consecutive year to this European initiative, with proposals that combine education, sport, culture, and awareness”.
